Louisiana Upgrading Nutrition for Children's Health

(LUNCH Program)

General Information

The LUNCH Program is a division of Foundation Health Services, Inc. located in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. The agency has been successfully operating since 1987. We can assist with the high cost of feeding children nutritious meals in daycare homes while the parents of these children work or attend school.

The LUNCH Program assists childcare providers through education, training, and extra financial support needed to provide better nutrition for children in their care. The agency is funded by the United States Department of Agriculture, the Louisiana Department of Education and Foundation Health Services, Inc.

Under the program, individuals providing childcare in their homes receive funds to help cover the cost of children's meals and snacks. In exchange, Providers are required to attend seminars designed to share information on everything from planning well-rounded meals to safety and first-aid. Representatives from our agency monitor Providers' homes several times throughout the year to assure compliance with policies and regulations.

The Providers' homes are inspected annually by the Louisiana State Fire Marshal's office for fire safety and sanitation. Each home must meet a list of requirements enforced by the Fire Marshal's office, including payment of an inspection fee. LUNCH program helps each home achieve compliance with these regulations.

The parents of children enrolled in the program must be working, attending school, or enrolled in a training program. Foster children automatically qualify for the program as long as the caregiver is caring for at least one child that does not reside in the home.

Providers may be eligible to receive reimbursement for two meals and one snack or two snacks and one meal each day for no more than six children under the age of 13 years. The Provider must record menus and attendance for each child for each day of the month and submit these records to the LUNCH Program in order to receive reimbursement for meals served. Our agency provides free services for those Providers who choose to submit their claim for reimbursement electronically.
